Members of NA Head Committee Visit Bodies Regulating TV Sphere and Public TV Company

On October 13, the members of the NA Head Committee visited the bodies regulating the TV and radio sphere and the Public TV Company. The goal of the MPs’ visit is to take steps aimed at creating wider opportunities of cooperation between the National Assembly and the state institutions.

First, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabrielyan, the Deputy Chair Taguhi Ghazaryan, the Committee members Hasmik Hakobyan and Narek Babayan were in the Commission on Television and Radio (CTR). The MPs met with the CTR Chairman Tigran Hakobyan and the representatives of the structure staff.

The Chair of the NA Head Committee noted that the law on Video and Audio Media was passed in the previous year, and after its use necessity on making amendments emerged.

The CTR Chairman noted that the Commission presented a number of proposals on the abovementioned law, which were partially accepted. Tigran Hakobyan reaffirmed the necessity of the amendments. According to him, some provisions contradict the co-laws. Introducing their main functions, the CTR Chairman has underlined that it is designed to form an analytical division.

Speaking about their future programmes, the interlocutors emphasized the regulation of the internet media sphere. During the meeting the social advertisement has also been touched upon, underlining that the sphere needs regulation.

The members of the NA Head Committee accompanied by the CTR Chairman Tigran Hakobyan took a tour in the organization, getting acquainted with the conditions.

Afterwards, the representatives of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Diaspora, Youth and Sport visited the Council of Public Broadcaster and met with the Chairman of the Council Ara Shirinyan, the members Vahram Martirosyan, Vahagn Tevosyan and Aram Sukiasyan.

Presenting their main functions, the Chairman of the Council of Public Broadcaster Ara Shirinyan has underscored that there is necessity for the work regulation, which can be carried out only through legislation, i.e. Government-Council, Council-structure inner regulations.

Among other issues the interlocutors touched upon the necessity of having cultural TV Company.

The series of the meetings of the NA Head Committee members also continued in the Public TV Television Company of Armenia. They met with the Executive Director of the Television Company Hovhannes Movsisyan and the Deputy Executive Director – General Producer Tigran Virabyan, who presented the programmes of autumn sew season and the interesting projects.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabrielyan has noted that the goal of the meetings is the discussion of the legislative initiatives regulating the sphere before putting them in circulation. In this context it has been stated that there are a number of laws, which need to be amended and modernized. The members of the NA Head Committee reaffirmed their readiness related to any issue for organizing discussions at the Committee to solve the existing urgent problems.
